Service Description

Harmonized System (HS) classification is a required data element for all imports and exports globally. Join this one-day program to learn how to classify according to the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI), applying for a customs ruling and developing a reasonable care standard to document your HS classification decisions. Course includes exercises to compliment classification topics. You will learn: • How to apply the General Rules of Interpretation • Your responsibilities to classify correctly. • Role of customs in targeting classification errors • How to apply for a custom’s ruling • How to audit your import or export declaration forms for accuracy of HS reporting • Developing a reasonable care process to manage your classification decisions. Who should attend? Import and export personnel, purchasing, engineers, internal auditors, customs brokers, freight forwarders and legal teams responsible for classifying or auditing classification decisions.

Cancellation Policy

If you have registered for one of SNCG’s Academy of Global Trade trainings, classes and/or certifications but are unable to attend, please see the below policies regarding cancellations, transferring a registration to a future session, and substitutions. Cancellation Policy: Cancellations are accepted in writing via email (to or by telephone. An email confirming the cancellation will be sent by SNCG. For a full refund, written cancellations must be received 15 business days prior to the start date of the training. Cancellations received under 15 business days of the course start date are not entitled to a refund, though the participant may transfer to a future course, or allow a colleague to attend in their place. Transfer Policy: If you cannot attend a scheduled course, Participants may transfer a registration to another SNCG training. Transfers are accepted in writing via email ( An email confirming the transfer will be sent by SNCG. Transferred credit for future training is valid for 12 months from the time of the original training. Transfers can be made up to 10 business days prior to the original training’s start date. Course Cancellations: If the course, class, training or session is canceled by SN-CG, a full refund or transfer to another course will be provided. Substitution Policy: Substitutions are accepted in writing email ( by providing the name of the current registrant and the name of the substitute. An email confirming the substitution will be sent by SNCG. • Substitutions may be made up to 15 business days prior to the training start date.
